When the Gospels were written during the first century of this era, they contained the most vast, varied and verifiable collection of predictions from any single prophet that the ancient world has to offer.
The four Gospels of the New Testament record more than 50 predictions from Jesus of Nazareth that were given during his public ministry, which lasted an estimated three-and-a-half years from A.D. 26-30, about 2,000 years ago.
He gave prophecies about himself, that he would be rejected, betrayed, handed over to Gentiles, mocked, flogged, put on trial, executed and resurrected. These prophecies gave his followers a firsthand chance to see whether he truly was a prophet.
He gave prophecies that his apostles would be persecuted, that some of them would put to death, and that they ultimately would succeed in spreading the Gospel throughout the nations. These prophecies gave his disciples a chance to personally experience the accuracy of his predictions.
He gave prophecies about the land and people of Israel, including the fall of Jerusalem, the destruction of the Temple, and the forced dispersion of the Jewish people throughout the nations of the world. These prophecies give students of history a chance to assess the accuracy of Jesus’ prophecies.
He also gave prophecies about Christianity, including that it would not be overcome by opposition and that it would reach people in every part of the world. Christianity has since become the first religion to reach a worldwide audience.
These prophecies from Jesus have been fulfilled, leaving behind direct and indirect evidence of their fulfillments within the record of history, to extents and extremes that are unmatched by any other prophet or “prophet” in the record of history.
Jesus also predicted that he will return in the future for Judgment Day, to judge the living and the dead, to resurrect believers to eternal life, and to preside eternally over the Kingdom of God.
He is Jesus of Nazareth, and his record of prophecy is more vast, varied and verifiable than anyone else’s within the record of history.
This book, Jesus the Prophet, explains 50 of Jesus’ prophecies, including 40 that have been fulfilled and 10 that are to be fulfilled in the future.
Christianity has been around for nearly 2,000 years and has millions of followers in every part of the world who view Jesus as being the Messiah and as being a prophet.
Even so, it can be surprisingly difficult to find a book, as of this writing in 2023, that offers a complete picture of Jesus as a prophet, with a meaningful overview of the prophecies that he gave.
To be sure, there are many books that explain how Jesus fulfills prophecies from the Old Testament, as the Messiah. But, these books rarely include any prophecies that Jesus gave in the New Testament, as a prophet.
And, there are books that focus on his “end times” prophecies, which are to be fulfilled in the future. But, most of Jesus’ prophecies were not about the “end times,” but about himself, his Apostles, the land and people of Israel, and the religion of Christianity.
In fact, most of Jesus’ prophecies have already been fulfilled. And it is the fulfillment of these prophecies that allows people today to assess and appreciate the accuracy of Jesus as a prophet.
And that is why this book, Jesus the Prophet, exists.
This book takes a selection of 50 prophecies that Jesus gave, as recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and strives to give the reader an easy-to-understand explanation of these predictions. These include 40 that have been fulfilled and 10 that are to be fulfilled in the future.
To see an example of how challenging it can be to find information specific to Jesus’ predictions, try typing phrases like “Jesus the prophet” or “prophecies given by Jesus” into a search engine and review the results. You might see for yourself that many of the results involve prophecies that Jesus fulfills as the Messiah rather than prophecies that Jesus gave as a prophet.
When the phrase, “Jesus the prophet,” was typed into the most commonly used search engine on Nov. 4, 2023, none of the first 100 results yielded an article, book, or any other resource, that provided a detailed overview of the predictions that Jesus gave as a prophet.
It is hoped that this book, Jesus the Prophet, will introduce the reader to Jesus the Prophet and provide the reader with a detailed and useful understanding of the prophecies that Jesus gave as a prophet.
And it is hoped that the reader will get a sense of the uniqueness of Jesus as a prophet, for the number and variety of his prophecies, as well as for the clear and undeniable fulfillments for many of his predictions.
